Nyheim Hines’ stint with the Buffalo Bills appeared to be coming to an end not long after he sustained a season-ending injury in a jet ski crash.
After the accident that left him with a ruptured ACL, the running back’s agent lashed out at the team, implying in a cryptic statement that they were failing to do the right thing with his $2.56 million paycheck.
Hines, on the other hand, said that settlement talks concluded on a favorable note and expressed a willingness to return to the Bills after completing treatment.
Nyheim Hines, Team Reached Conclusion
Hines said in an interview with The Athletic that he was able to strike an agreeable conclusion with the team following the accident, which occurred over the Fourth of July weekend. According to the article, because his injuries occurred away from the organization, the Bills were not compelled to pay him anything.
After the parties reached an agreement on a reduced payout, Hines stated that he was satisfied.
“We were both upset, both parties were upset,” Hines said. “That was not something I expected to happen. They had not anticipated this happening. We both had lofty goals for myself. And they know I hold myself accountable, and they realized this was going to kill me more than it was going to hurt them.”
At first, it seemed impossible to find a solution. Agent Ed Wasielewski posted a mysterious message on X that appeared to criticize the team.
He wrote, “Challenges reveal one’s true character. Every individual has the choice to show respect and honor towards others. How a company supports an injured employee speaks volumes about its values. I maintain hope that people will act rightly when faced with difficulties within their own circles.”
However, Hines expressed admiration for the team in an interview this week, affirming his continued affiliation with the Bills and expressing a desire to return.
“In the end, they treated me well and handled the situation properly. I’m still part of the Buffalo Bills, and I eagerly anticipate returning next year to earn the opportunity for victory,” he stated.
Bills Could Have Opening for Nyheim Hines to Return
Hines had a significant influence on the Bills after joining them during last season’s trade deadline. He notably returned two kickoffs for touchdowns during a poignant season-ending triumph against the New England Patriots, which occurred shortly after Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field.
In the offseason, the Bills enlisted the services of fast wide receiver Deonte Harty to handle return duties. However, Harty failed to leave a notable impression and was omitted from the team’s lineup in the game against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 26. Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic suggested that the Bills might opt to part ways with Harty after the season concludes.
“By parting ways with Harty before his roster bonus becomes due in mid-March, the Bills stand to save over $4 million,” Buscaglia stated on X.
Moreover, Harty hasn’t significantly contributed to the team’s offense. The former New Orleans Saints receiver has only managed 13 receptions for 113 yards and scored one touchdown throughout this season.
