‘Boost’ Another charlton academy player signs professional deal

Too many youngsters have been scooped up by bigger clubs over the years, and while these four will definitely go on, the club and the academy staff gain some credit for their ongoing fantastic work with young players.

Olly Groome, an ex-Addicks publicity and communications specialist, was another ‘new signing’ today.

Olly, a long-time employee and longtime Addick, was ruthlessly dismissed by Thomas Sandgaard and later obtained damages from the Dane. He was previously the media director for Welling United, but has since joined the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) to supervise their own marketing and communications.

Except for the damp studious of Charlton’s academy, I doubt anyone had heard of Micah Mbick until around 3 weeks ago.

Michael Appleton, who Micah had clearly impressed, gave Micah Mbick his debut. He then scored virtually immediately after coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup rematch at Cray Valley. Mbick signed his first professional deal today.

The 17-year-old has been with the club since he was ten years old, and he has 12 goals in 13 games for the U18s and U21s this season.

Best wishes, Micah, and it’s encouraging to see four young strikers on the books who are ‘one of our own’: Micah, Patrick Casey, Daniel Kanu, and Miles Leaburn.
