Last season, Keylor Navas helped Nottingham Forest stay in the Premier League, and he could potentially join Newcastle. The goalkeeper is currently back at PSG, but he is no longer a member of the Ligue 1 club.
During the second part of 2022/23, the seasoned goalkeeper was an excellent addition to the Forest squad. He appeared in 17 games for the Reds, keeping two clean sheets as they secured Premier League survival.
Navas has extensive expertise and has won the Champions League three times. He’s also won Ligue 1 twice and been a member of a Spanish title-winning club.
Forest worked extremely hard to get Navas to the City Ground. After it was confirmed that Dean Henderson would be out for the rest of the season, the club needed to act immediately.
Newcastle in for Navas
The 34-year-old player might suddenly find himself on Newcastle’s shortlist. They’re in uncertainty after Nick Pope suffered a dislocated shoulder and was declared out for several months.
According to The Mirror, Newcastle will look for a new goalkeeper in January, and Navas is on their radar following his loan spell with Forest during the 2022/23 season. Navas will almost certainly leap at the chance to return to the Premier League. He is currently out with an injury but is expected to return soon.
Signing Navas is never an easy task. Newcastle should be aware that the Costa Rica international earns around £200,000 per week at PSG and that they will want a substantial portion of that money.
Forest right not to sign Navas permanently
It’s safe to say that Navas would have been an improvement over Forest’s current goalkeepers. This season, both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos have had frightening experiences.
Forest, on the other hand, couldn’t justify Navas given his age and salary. His presence would have signified yet another short-term fix, which would not have gone over well.
Navas will be remembered for his accomplishments at Forest. He was crucial in ensuring the Reds’ Premier League survival in the final few weeks.
