ESPN News: Los Angeles Rams now in advance stage to land 22-years rookie cornerback

The Los Angeles Rams have persistently pursued rookie cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly throughout this NFL season, demonstrating a keen interest in acquiring his talents. However, their attempts to secure Kelly have been thwarted for the second time in the past month, as the Washington Commanders successfully claimed him off waivers after his release from the Green Bay Packers. This development comes ahead of the Rams’ upcoming game against the Washington Commanders.

The Rams had previously sought to claim Kyu Blu Kelly when he was released by the Seattle Seahawks, but their efforts were in vain as another team secured him on waivers. Kelly’s journey in his inaugural NFL year has been quite eventful, originating from his fifth-round selection by the Baltimore Ravens. Despite the Rams making four fifth-round picks in the 2023 draft, all their selections occurred after the Ravens had picked Kelly 157th overall.

While it remains uncertain whether the Rams would have chosen Kyu Blu Kelly with one of their picks, the outcome might be considered fortuitous in hindsight. L.A.’s final selection of the round resulted in the acquisition of Puka Nacua, along with Warren McClendon, Nick Hampton, and Davis Allen.

Stanford CB Kyu Blu Kelly hopeful to follow father's NFL footsteps

Kyu Blu Kelly’s trajectory saw him released by the Ravens at final cuts after an apparently unimpressive performance in training camp and preseason. Subsequently, the Seahawks picked him up, only to waive him in November. The Green Bay Packers then claimed him, prioritizing their waiver status over the Rams. Kelly spent a month with the Packers before being waived again, leading to his current placement with the Washington Commanders.

Evidently, the Rams harbor a persistent desire to bolster their cornerback options, with Kyu Blu Kelly ranking high on their wish list for available prospects. The question that looms is whether the Rams will have another opportunity to vie for his services, and it’s conceivable that they are hopeful for such an opportunity to materialize in the near future.
