Jurgen Klopp makes ‘incredible’ claim about striker who Newcastle want to sign in January

Newcastle United is reportedly considering recruiting a new striker during the upcoming January transfer window. While their priority lies in securing a fresh central midfielder, discussions have reportedly taken place regarding the addition of an extra forward.

Both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are formidable forwards in the Premier League when in peak form. However, both players have a tendency to be injury-prone, leaving the team without a viable alternative in the central striking position.

Although Anthony Gordon has contributed with goals, his strengths likely lie in playing on the left wing.

Taking these factors into consideration, Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen has emerged as a potential target. The 22-year-old has impressed with 14 goals in 21 games since his £17 million move from Union Saint-Gilloise to the German club, attracting interest from various clubs across Europe. Notably, Jurgen Klopp appears to be an admirer of Boniface as well.

Victor Boniface: What Jurgen Klopp has said about Newcastle transfer target

The Liverpool manager said of Boniface and former teammate Deniz Undav (now at Brighton) during his news conference (via YouTube) ahead of the Nigerian’s previous side: “Good team.

“Lost good players, such as really interesting strikers who are doing really impressive things in other leagues right now.” Both in the Bundesliga, in fact.”

Victor Boniface: Perfect Newcastle transfer target

At 22 years old and displaying impressive performances in one of Europe’s prominent leagues, Boniface appears to be a perfect fit for Newcastle.

Except for a few instances like Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has focused on younger players who have something to prove.

Given Boniface’s success in the Bundesliga and considering Wilson’s advancing age, he seems, at least on paper, precisely the type of signing that Newcastle would actively pursue.

Evidently establishing himself among the top tier of players, it’s understandable why there’s significant interest preceding the January transfer window.
