Billy Donovan reveals what Chicago Bulls players need to do to be a successful team

What Bulls coach Donovan had to say about the team’s need for a better defensive game. Whatever momentum the Chicago Bulls gained during their previous four-game winning streak has all but vanished following the team’s two-game losing streak. Following losses to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets, Bulls coach Billy Donovan stated that his team must focus more on stopping people if they are to be successful in their upcoming games.

Following losses to the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets, Bulls coach Billy Donovan stated that his team must focus more on stopping people if they are to be successful in their upcoming games.

Rely on their defense

Last season, the Bulls were an excellent defensive unit, finishing seventh in defensive rating. This season, however, has been a different story, with the Bulls being in the bottom ten of the aforementioned criteria, making it no wonder that the team has only nine wins after a quarter of the season. The Bulls’ final two games saw them struggle to defend the paint and the basket, requiring Donovan to remind his players what they needed to accomplish.

“The one thing we’ve got to do a better job of is relying on our defense. We didn’t protect the rim well enough,” Donovan said.

Additionally, Donovan said the Bulls have been giving up too many fouls. In their last game versus the Denver Nuggets, Chicago fouled 22 times, leading to 23 free-throw attempts for their opponents.

“The other part was we fouled too much and we have to clean that up,” Donovan added.

Have to regroup

Back-to-back games exhaust the squad, and the Bulls will need to recoup swiftly before facing the Miami Heat on Thursday.

“I think we’ve got to regroup here,” said Donovan.

“Getting back physically. I think the last two games has taken a lot out of us physically. So we’ve got to get it back.”
