Longtime Seattle Mariners fans who made the journey to Toronto are hoping to witness history at Rogers Centre on Sunday or Monday night.
With the Mariners holding a 3–2 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series, several loyal supporters traveled north in anticipation of seeing their team clinch its first-ever World Series berth—where the Los Angeles Dodgers await.
Matt Walker, a fan from Portland, admitted to feeling anxious while watching the Mariners take batting practice. “I’ve had my hopes get up there and then dashed,” he told the Toronto Sun. “So, I’m just nervous.”
Walker attended Games 3 and 4 at T-Mobile Park, as well as Games 1, 2, and 5 of the AL Division Series against the Detroit Tigers. Originally planning to head home after a weekend in New York City, he changed his travel plans once the Mariners won Game 5.
“I was supposed to go home today, but when they won Game 5, I redirected my flight through Toronto,” he said.
