The Atlanta Braves are reuniting with a familiar figure on their coaching staff.
On Monday, the team announced that Fredi Gonzalez has been appointed as their interim third base coach. As part of the change, Matt Tuiasosopo has been reassigned from third base coach to minor league infield coordinator.
Gonzalez, 61, has deep ties to both the Braves and the NL East. He previously served as a Braves coach from 2003 to 2006 before managing the Miami Marlins from 2007 to 2010. He later returned to Atlanta as the team’s manager from 2011 to 2016, succeeding Bobby Cox.
After managing the Braves, Fredi Gonzalez took on the role of third base coach with the Miami Marlins, followed by a coaching stint with the Baltimore Orioles from 2020 to 2024.
Over the course of his managerial career, Gonzalez compiled a 710–692 record, though his teams struggled in the playoffs, going just 1–4.

As for Matt Tuiasosopo’s demotion, it stemmed from several questionable decisions in his role as third base coach. He was criticized for inconsistent calls to hold or send runners and drew particular scrutiny for a widely mocked mistake involving Eli White, who was thrown out after running to the wrong base.
