Calgary Flames Sign Forward Adam Klapka to Two-Year Contract Extension
The Calgary Flames have taken a key step in reinforcing their roster depth by signing winger Adam Klapka to a two-year contract. The team made the announcement on Saturday, signaling their continued belief in the potential and growth of the 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward.
Klapka, who plays both right and left wing, has spent the past two seasons in the Flames’ organization and has shown steady development while playing with the AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers. His new contract is a two-way deal for the 2024-25 season, which transitions to a one-way deal in 2025-26, signaling the organization’s expectation that Klapka could earn a full-time role with the NHL club in the near future.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022, Klapka has become a fan favorite in Calgary due to his imposing physical presence, strong skating for his size, and willingness to play a power-forward style. During the 2023-24 AHL season, he appeared in 65 games with the Wranglers, tallying 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points, while also racking up 94 penalty minutes. He ranked second on the team in points and was a central figure during the Wranglers’ playoff push.

Klapka also made his NHL debut with the Flames during the 2023-24 season, appearing in five games late in the campaign. While he was held off the scoresheet, he impressed the coaching staff with his energy, physicality, and responsible two-way play. The experience gave him a taste of NHL action and helped the organization evaluate his readiness for a more permanent role in the future.
Flames general manager Craig Conroy praised Klapka’s attitude and work ethic, saying, “Adam has made tremendous strides since joining our organization. He brings a unique combination of size, skill, and toughness, and we believe he’s just scratching the surface of what he can become at the NHL level.”
The signing of Klapka comes at a time when the Flames are focusing on rebuilding and developing their young core. With veterans moving on and roster spots becoming available, players like Klapka represent the next wave of talent expected to contribute in the coming seasons. His continued growth, both in offensive production and in understanding the nuances of the pro game, will be closely watched during training camp and the early stages of the 2024-25 season.
With this new deal in place, Adam Klapka now has a clear runway to make a case for a full-time role with the Flames. His physical style and versatility make him a valuable asset, and the organization’s investment in him suggests they expect big things in the years to come.
