Jacksonville Jaguars Waive Running Back Keilan Robinson
The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced the waiver of running back Keilan Robinson, a move that continues the team’s offseason roster adjustments ahead of training camp. Robinson, an undrafted free agent out of Texas, had recently signed with the Jaguars following the 2024 NFL Draft. His release now opens up a spot on Jacksonville’s 90-man offseason roster.
Robinson’s brief tenure with the Jaguars comes as part of the intense competition and evaluation process NFL teams undertake during the offseason. For many undrafted rookies like Robinson, opportunities to make an impression are limited, and roster spots are highly competitive. While Robinson showed flashes of versatility during his college career, he ultimately did not make a significant enough impact in offseason workouts to secure a longer look in Jacksonville.
The 5-foot-9, 190-pound running back began his college career at Alabama before transferring to the University of Texas. At both programs, Robinson was known for his speed and playmaking ability in space. At Texas, he contributed not only as a running back but also as a special teams player and occasional receiver, showcasing his all-around athleticism. However, Robinson never became a featured back and primarily served in a rotational role during his collegiate career.
With the Jaguars already having a strong stable of running backs, including Travis Etienne Jr., Tank Bigsby, and D’Ernest Johnson, the odds were stacked against Robinson to break into the depth chart. Jacksonville has emphasized developing a balanced offense around quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and the running back room remains a key part of that plan. The release of Robinson indicates that the Jaguars are likely prioritizing backs with more size, blocking ability, or experience as they shape their final roster heading into training camp.
Robinson will now head to waivers, where other NFL teams have the opportunity to claim him. Given his athletic profile and experience at two Power Five programs, it’s possible that another team may take a chance on him, especially those looking for speed and special teams help. If he clears waivers, he could also be a candidate for a practice squad spot elsewhere or a potential future workout invite.
While his time in Jacksonville was short-lived, Robinson’s journey in professional football may not be over. Many undrafted players have found success after initial setbacks, and Robinson will now look to prove himself at the next opportunity. For the Jaguars, the move allows them to continue evaluating other roster options as they prepare for what they hope will be a return to playoff contention in 2025.
