Christian Dvorak
Christian Dvorak’s future with the Canadiens was clearly out of the question as the 2024–2025 season began. Nevertheless, he not only scored significant goals but also solidified himself as a mainstay for Martin St-Louis in the closing minutes of the season, especially in the face-off circle. Considering that his contract expires on July 1st, what should we do with him? Though unlikely, the prospect of seeing him again in Montreal appears more reasonable.
Mike Matheson
Many people are wondering if Mike Matheson will be traded to make place for younger players given the rise of Kaiden Guhle and Lane Hutson. He may be the fans’ scapegoat, but in the end, he’s doing more good than bad and playing significant minutes for the Habs every week. At $4.875 million (US), he is a tremendous steal and will become an unrestricted free agency in 2026.
Joel Armia
The Finn is scheduled to become a free agent in July of next year, so it’s feasible that he’ll return to Montreal. The No. 40, who has been with the organization since 2018, announced that recent discussions have taken place regarding a return. He fits in nicely with Jake Evans’ style and appears to enjoy playing in a role on the third or fourth line.
Joshua Roy
The young Québécois played just 12 games with the Habs this season, experiencing his share of ups and downs. Inconsistency is often a problem, so one wonders whether he’ll be liquidated in a trade, in order to improve the big club. Roy seems destined to make the NHL… to be continued, but don’t be surprised if he leaves the Habs sooner rather than later.
Cayden Primeau
With the Laval Rocket, the American goalie has had a terrific season and is a skilled player in front of goal. However, given that he has obviously slipped below Jakub Dobes in the squad hierarchy, his future in Montreal is more than doubtful. The Habs must determine whether to make him a qualifying offer before he becomes a restricted free agency on July 1.
Arber Xhekaj
With the arrival of David Reinbacher and Alexandre Carrier, one wonders if Logan Mailloux will be traded so that the Habs can acquire a number 2 center. The young right-handed brigadier has a baggage of tools much sought-after in the NHL, including his laterality and size, so there’s no doubt that a few managers could be interested in his services, should he become available on the market.
Logan Mailloux
Martin St-Louis seemed to lack faith in the Sheriff, even if he is one of the crowd’s favorite players. Before playing a significant and terrifying role against the Capitals in the playoffs, Xhekaj was sometimes disregarded in the latter stages of the season. Again, though, it wouldn’t be shocking if number 72 asked for a trade in order to take advantage of genuine prospects elsewhere. The other thirty-one teams will definitely want him.
Michael Pezzetta
Michael Pezzetta’s tenure with the Habs is coming to an end, and he is also anticipated to become a free agent. Pezzetta hasn’t played much this season, and it’s unclear if he’s good enough for the NHL. Nonetheless, “Pezz” is acknowledged as a person who has contributed much to the club and is valued by both the organization and his teammates.
Kirby Dach
Since his arrival with the Habs in 2022, injuries have not spared Dach. It seems pretty obvious that he’s not the second center everyone expected, so he could get a breath of fresh air with another franchise. That said, Dach seems to be greatly appreciated internally, so he may get one last chance. He’ll be in the final year of his current contract, so the stakes will be high for #77.
Patrik Laine
Since coming to Montreal, Patrik Laine has gone from hero to almost nothing. While most supporters are currently demanding his removal because he doesn’t seem to align with his coach’s ideology, many envisioned him as a savior in 2024. A deal for the Finnish behemoth or a contract buyout? The concept is beginning to gain traction.
