Philadelphia Phillies fans are anxiously awaiting updates on their star first baseman.
Bryce Harper exited Tuesday’s matchup against the Atlanta Braves in the first inning after taking a pitch to his surgically repaired right elbow from Braves ace Spencer Strider.
Harper immediately clutched his elbow and stepped out of the batter’s box, prompting manager Rob Thomson and a team trainer to check on him. After a brief discussion, Harper walked off the field and was replaced by Edmundo Sosa.
The Phillies later reported that x-rays came back negative, diagnosing Harper with an elbow contusion.
Harper previously underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow following the 2022 World Series, which caused him to miss the start of the 2023 season. He also experienced elbow irritation during last year’s campaign.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, Harper was hitting .267 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs.
