Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson offered a key update on superstar first baseman Bryce Harper on Tuesday afternoon, addressing concerns after Harper exited Monday’s game with apparent discomfort.
Speaking to reporters before tonight’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Thomson confirmed that Harper is dealing with mild hamstring tightness, sustained while running the bases in the seventh inning of last night’s win. According to the skipper, early tests indicate no structural damage, and the team is optimistic Harper will avoid a stint on the injured list.
“He felt it grab a little bit rounding first,” Thomson said. “We had him checked out immediately and the early imaging is encouraging. We’ll keep him out of the lineup tonight as a precaution and see how he feels tomorrow.”
Harper, 32, has been red-hot in May, slashing .348/.427/.652 with 6 home runs and 18 RBIs over his last 18 games. His resurgence at the plate has helped propel the Phillies to the top of the NL East standings, and his presence in the heart of the lineup remains critical as the team eyes a deep postseason run.

When asked whether Harper could be available off the bench tonight, Thomson said it’s “unlikely,” but didn’t rule it out entirely.
“We’re going to be smart about this. The season is long, and we’re not going to take any unnecessary risks with Bryce,” Thomson added.
Harper has dealt with injuries in recent seasons—including Tommy John surgery in 2022—but has largely avoided setbacks since transitioning to first base. Phillies fans will be keeping a close eye on his status in the coming days as the team continues its West Coast road trip.
