Breaking News: Seattle Seahawks Announced The Departure Of Another Top Talented Star…

Seattle Seahawks Release Wide Receiver Nate McCollum

The Seattle Seahawks have officially parted ways with wide receiver Nate McCollum, the team announced on Sunday. The release comes as part of the team’s ongoing offseason roster moves as they work to refine the depth chart ahead of training camp in late July.

McCollum, a former standout at Georgia Tech and later the University of North Carolina, signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent earlier this offseason. Despite showing flashes of potential during rookie minicamp and organized team activities (OTAs), McCollum was unable to secure a more permanent role in a competitive wide receiver room led by established veterans DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, along with emerging star Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Known for his quickness out of the slot and sharp route-running, McCollum was considered a potential depth option who could also contribute on special teams. However, with the Seahawks facing a numbers crunch and looking to make room for other positional needs, the decision to release the 5-foot-11, 190-pound receiver suggests the team is prioritizing versatility and proven performance as they shape the final 90-man roster.

McCollum transferred to North Carolina for the 2023 college football season after a productive stint at Georgia Tech. In Chapel Hill, he recorded 38 receptions for 400 yards and one touchdown, adding to his collegiate total of over 1,000 career receiving yards. Despite a modest statistical output, his athleticism and experience in two Power Five conferences drew the interest of several NFL teams during the post-draft signing period.

Although his stint in Seattle was brief, McCollum now becomes a free agent and is eligible to sign with any other NFL team. His collegiate resume and recent NFL exposure could make him a target for teams looking to bolster their receiving corps heading into training camp.

As for the Seahawks, the release opens a spot on the 90-man roster, giving the front office flexibility to potentially add depth at another position or invite a new undrafted player for further evaluation. Head coach Mike Macdonald and general manager John Schneider continue to fine-tune the roster as they transition into their first season together in the post-Pete Carroll era.

While McCollum’s NFL journey with Seattle has ended, his talent and work ethic could earn him another opportunity in the league. The Seahawks, meanwhile, continue to move forward with a focus on development, competition, and preparing a roster that can contend in a highly competitive NFC West division.
