The New York Giants made a bold move in free agency this offseason, investing $45.3 million to bring in former Dolphins safety Jevon Holland as a major upgrade to their secondary.
With Xavier McKinney departing in the 2024 offseason, the safety position became a key area of concern for Big Blue. Holland, viewed as an emerging talent, arrives with strong backing from both current teammates and former Giants, ready to make an impact.
Former Giants DL views Jevon Holland as a “budding star”

During an appearance on the Breaking Big Blue podcast with ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, former Giants defensive lineman Chris Canty shared his enthusiasm about Jevon Holland joining the team (via Athlon Sports).
“I believe he can make an impact at every level of the defense. He’s shown he can blitz and pressure the quarterback, and unlike many safeties around the league, he’s not a liability in coverage,” Canty said.
Canty went on to call Holland a “budding star” at the safety position.
Holland helps the Giants improve in one key area
Holland built a strong reputation with the Dolphins over the past few seasons, emerging as one of the NFL’s top young safeties. In his four years in Miami, he tallied five interceptions, 16 pass deflections, five forced fumbles, and five sacks — showcasing his ability to make game-changing plays all over the field and a strong instinct for the football.
Last season, the Giants’ defense struggled mightily to create turnovers, managing just five interceptions — the second-fewest in the NFL.
Jevon Holland brings both leadership and playmaking ability to a young secondary that needs a spark. His presence should boost the confidence of the defensive backfield while also increasing their ability to generate turnovers — a key area of improvement as the Giants gear up for a pivotal 2025 campaign.
