Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper remains sidelined after taking a 95-mph fastball off his right elbow from Braves ace Spencer Strider earlier this week. While X-rays came back negative, Harper was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion and is considered day-to-day.
Friday marked his third straight missed game as the Phillies opened a home series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Harper gave an update on his recovery, admitting there’s still significant discomfort:
“Still super sore,” Harper told NBC Sports Philadelphia. “Doing treatment. Not sure when I’m gonna play again… The swelling’s gone down, which is good, but it’s a pretty tough spot where he got me. Just trying to be smart about it.”
Both Harper and manager Rob Thomson don’t believe an injured list stint will be necessary, though there’s no firm timetable for his return. Harper took ground balls pregame on Friday but has yet to resume hitting.

“We have to get the swelling out and him be pain free, or close to it,” Thomson said via the Associated Press.
Harper has been a key part of Philadelphia’s strong start to 2025, slashing .267/.375/.450 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs through 54 games. The Phillies currently lead the NL East with a 36-21 record, and they’ll be hoping their star first baseman can return soon to help maintain their momentum.
