BREAKING: The Phillies Finalize 2-Time World Series Champion Deal To Replace Alec Bohm

The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series, and president Dave Dombrowski is expected to take an aggressive approach this offseason in hopes of returning the team to the World Series. Despite boasting a roster loaded with All-Stars in recent years, the Phillies haven’t captured a championship since their 2022 run, when they lost to the Houston Astros.

Interestingly, a former Astro might be the key to changing that. Alex Bregman has opted out of his contract, and MassLive’s Christopher Smith projects that the Phillies could sign him. “Dave Dombrowski is expected to have an active offseason after Philadelphia’s NLDS loss,” Smith wrote. “Would it shock anyone if he overpays for a veteran leader who knows how to win a World Series?”

Bregman, a two-time World Series champion, rebounded in 2025 with his first All-Star nod since 2019 and could be a clear upgrade at third base over Alec Bohm. Though Bohm was an All-Star in 2024, his OPS dipped by 38 points this season. While he still produced solid numbers, trade rumors have surrounded him since last offseason, and the Phillies might look to deal him while his value remains high.

With three All-Star selections, a Gold Glove, and a Silver Slugger to his name, Bregman is expected to draw plenty of interest and command a hefty contract. Meanwhile, Philadelphia may also prioritize re-signing Kyle Schwarber before pursuing other marquee players. Still, a combination of Bregman and Schwarber could be exactly what the Phillies need to push for another World Series appearance.
