BRRAKING: The Reds Makes Stunning Game Changing Decision Prior To The Series Against The Padres

The Cincinnati Reds made a pair of roster changes today, exchanging outfielders. Austin Hays has been activated from the injured list after recovering from a bone bruise in his foot. He replaces Jake Fraley on the active roster, as Fraley heads to the 10-day IL with a sprained right shoulder.

Hays had been sidelined for nearly a month. He suffered the foot injury on May 28th after fouling a ball off himself during a game against the Kansas City Royals and exited in the 8th inning. The bruise required extended rest, especially since he experienced pain during most running activities except for straight-line sprints.

This week, Hays began a brief rehab assignment with Double-A Chattanooga. He served as the designated hitter in his first game and then played left field the following night. He recorded a hit in each appearance and also drew a walk in the opener. After a scheduled rest day on Thursday, he rejoined the Reds ahead of their series against the San Diego Padres.

Cincinnati will welcome his return to the lineup. The right-handed hitter brings a strong offensive presence, and when healthy, he’s been productive. Over 31 games, he’s posted a .303 batting average with a .346 on-base percentage and a .555 slugging mark, including 15 extra-base hits and 25 RBIs.

Meanwhile, Jake Fraley will be sidelined again—this time with a shoulder injury. He previously missed most of May due to a calf strain. Since his return on May 30th, he’s batted .255/.352/.404 in 54 plate appearances.
