The Boston Bruins have added to their goaltending depth by signing netminder Simon Zajicek to a one-year, entry-level contract, the team officially announced on Wednesday. The 20-year-old goaltender becomes one of the newest additions to Boston’s pipeline, and his signing signals a continued investment in developing young talent between the pipes.
Zajicek, a native of Slovakia, has shown promise on the international stage and in European leagues. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing around 190 pounds, Zajicek has been known for his strong positional play, quick lateral movement, and poise under pressure. While he may not be a household name among North American hockey fans yet, his recent performances in European junior tournaments and professional appearances in Slovakia and the Czech Republic have caught the attention of scouts.
He represented Slovakia at the IIHF World Junior Championships, where he posted competitive numbers against some of the best young talent in the world. His composure in high-stakes situations and ability to track the puck through traffic were among the traits that reportedly attracted the Bruins’ scouting staff.
Zajicek is expected to begin his professional career in North America with one of Boston’s minor league affiliates, most likely the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) or the Maine Mariners in the ECHL. This will allow him to adapt to the smaller rink size and faster pace of play in North American hockey while continuing to refine his technical skills under the guidance of the Bruins’ goaltending coaches.

For the Bruins, this signing reinforces their commitment to building a strong pipeline of goaltenders behind their current NHL tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. With Ullmark entering the final year of his contract and ongoing speculation surrounding potential trade interest in the veteran goaltender, adding Zajicek provides organizational flexibility and insurance for the future.
The entry-level contract, which is typically standard for players of Zajicek’s age and experience level, will include a modest salary and performance bonuses. It also gives the Bruins exclusive rights to continue evaluating and developing him over the course of the upcoming season.
Zajicek now joins a competitive group of young goaltenders within the Bruins’ system, including Brandon Bussi and Michael DiPietro. His path to the NHL will require hard work and development, but Boston’s coaching staff is optimistic about his upside and long-term potential.
The Bruins’ front office continues to emphasize scouting and international development as critical pieces of their roster strategy. With this latest signing, Boston hopes to have uncovered another future contributor who can play a meaningful role in years to come.
