The Philadelphia Phillies have remained one of baseball’s top teams this season, managing to stay competitive even with Bryce Harper sidelined for an extended stretch.
Harper, who has been out since June 6 due to a wrist injury, is now nearing a return. Though not fully cleared yet, he reached an important milestone in his recovery by taking live batting practice in Atlanta during the Phillies’ series against the Braves, according to ESPN.
“Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper faced live pitching at Truist Park as he continues to work his way back after an injury to his right wrist,” ESPN reported. “Harper went on the 10-day injured list June 6. He traveled with the team to Atlanta and went through a workout in the morning ahead of the Phillies’ game against the Braves on Saturday night.”
Even with Bryce Harper sidelined for over three weeks, the Phillies have managed to gain ground in the competitive NL East and now hold a slim lead over the New York Mets. The Mets have stumbled badly, dropping 12 of their last 15 games, allowing Philadelphia to climb into first place.
Harper’s impending return should give the team an added boost as it tries to widen the gap in the standings. With just a half-game separating the two rivals, the Phillies are aiming to build a cushion as the season crosses the halfway mark.
While Harper hasn’t quite delivered the elite production fans are accustomed to, he’s still been solid in 2025, hitting .258 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs over 57 games.
Philadelphia hopes those numbers trend upward as Harper settles back in, and if he returns to form, the Phillies’ lineup could become one of the most formidable in the league.
