HUGE BOOST: The Cardinals Land Another Highly Experience Versatile Game-Changer In Blockbuster Deal

The University of Louisville men’s basketball program and head coach Pat Kelsey announced Friday the addition of Evangelos “Vangelis” Zougris to the 2025-26 roster.

“That iconic image of Zou in his Greek national team jersey, face bloodied and roaring, perfectly captures who he is as a player,” said Kelsey. “Card Nation is going to love his toughness, relentless energy, and the passion he brings every single possession. He’s got a high basketball IQ and a polished skill set. He’s effective in the pick-and-roll, finishes well around the rim with both strength and finesse, and is a versatile defender who can switch onto guards and protect the paint. He rebounds aggressively and sets elite-level screens—an often-overlooked key to modern offense. Competing in one of the world’s top pro leagues for several years has him ready to make an immediate impact for us.”

Zougris arrives from the Greek Basketball League, where he’s played the past four seasons with Peristeri Athens. A native of Athens, he’s been a regular on Greece’s national teams—first as a standout on the junior squad, where he earned All-Tournament honors in both 2023 and 2024 at FIBA European events, before joining the senior national team in 2023.
