HUGE BOOST: The Tigers Breathe Easy, Confirms Return Of Another Highly Versatile Experience Star, Strengthening Squad Depth After Jackson Jobe Injury Blow

The Detroit Tigers have shared encouraging news regarding starting pitcher Reese Olson.

Olson has been out of the rotation since May 17 due to a finger injury sustained during a game against the Toronto Blue Jays. In that outing, he pitched six innings, allowed just one hit and one walk, and struck out six batters.

Now, it seems the Tigers are preparing for his return, according to team reporter Chris McCosky.

“Parker Meadows is slated to play nine innings tonight and tomorrow in Toledo, which could be the final step before he returns… Reese Olson will throw a bullpen session here in Kansas City on Saturday… Alex Lange is transitioning his rehab to Toledo, though he’s not officially on a rehab assignment,” McCosky reported.

What’s next for Reese Olson, Tigers

Getting Reese Olson back on the mound will be a significant boost for the Tigers’ pitching staff.

Before his finger injury, Olson made nine starts during the 2025 season, posting a 4-3 record with a 2.96 ERA over 48.2 innings. He recorded 51 strikeouts while allowing just 38 hits, 19 walks, 16 earned runs, and two home runs.

Despite his absence, the Tigers have kept their momentum going. They’ve won seven of their last 11 games and are currently on a four-game winning streak. Most recently, they swept a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants, bouncing back from earlier losses to the St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Guardians.

Detroit now sits atop the AL Central with a 37-20 record, holding the best record in the American League—two wins ahead of the second-place New York Yankees.

After opening their series against the Kansas City Royals on Friday, the Tigers will look ahead to Game 2 on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. ET, with the series finale set for Sunday at 2:10 p.m. ET.
