JUST IN: The Phillies Share Bryce Harper’s Secret Decision And Suggestion

It’s nearly impossible to leave the Philadelphia Phillies out of the World Series conversation this year. Motivated by last October’s NL Division Series loss to the Mets, the Phillies have come out strong in 2025, posting a 36-20 record through their first 56 games — the best mark in the National League.

As has been the case in recent years, Philadelphia’s success is fueled by a well-rounded team effort. Multiple veteran players are performing at a high level, including one key slugger that first baseman Bryce Harper is already publicly lobbying for the team to re-sign before season’s end.

Bryce Harper Wants Phillies to Re-Sign Kyle Schwarber ASAP

Kyle Schwarber is putting together another standout season in 2025, and it’s clear that both his teammates and the organization want to see him remain a Phillie beyond this year. Bryce Harper has been vocal about his desire for the 32-year-old slugger to stick around, telling the Philadelphia Inquirer, “I don’t see (Schwarber) playing anywhere else… He brings so much value to our team. Not only on the field, but off the field as well.”

Now in the final year of the four-year, $79 million contract he signed in March 2022, Schwarber has more than lived up to expectations. He led the National League with 46 home runs in his first season with Philadelphia and followed that with 47 in 2023 and 38 in 2024—each year finishing with exactly 104 RBIs. His power and consistency have made him a fan favorite and a staple in the middle of the Phillies’ lineup.

So far in 2025, he’s continued that production, slashing .252/.394/.569 with 19 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 43 walks over his first 56 games. He reached a major milestone on May 19, launching his 300th career home run—a 466-foot shot against the Rockies.

With his continued ability to produce 30-40 homers and drive in 100 runs, it’s no surprise that fans and Harper alike are pushing for an extension. Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski echoed that sentiment in a recent interview on The Show, saying, “We’d love to keep (Schwarber) as part of the organization for the long term… I’m sure there’ll be a lot of other clubs interested, but we hope it happens.”

As June approaches, the Phillies remain one of baseball’s top contenders with a 36-20 record and tied for the third-best World Series odds (+950 on FanDuel). Keeping Schwarber in the fold could be a key step in maintaining their championship window—and potentially securing his place in Philadelphia for the rest of his career.
