The 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship kicked off at Fox Raceway in Pala over the weekend, and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan dominated the 250 Class by going 1-1—mirroring his performance from the 2024 season opener.
“I came in with the same goal as last year: go 1-1 and set the tone,” Deegan said about his mindset. “That gave me some confidence, too. With the first race, you always wonder, ‘Where do I stack up?’ I knew I’d be strong, but once you get the win, it really sets the standard. Now the first round’s in the books.”
There were plenty of storylines heading into the 2025 Pro Motocross opener, but questioning whether Haiden Deegan would continue his dominant form from 2024 wasn’t one of them. Fresh off his 250SX West title in Monster Energy AMA Supercross and his 2024 250 Pro Motocross Championship, Deegan entered the new season as the clear favorite—and he showed exactly why.
Yes, other riders will challenge him this summer and may even take race wins, but Deegan remains a formidable force in Pro Motocross. His raw speed is electrifying, he seems to handle varying track conditions better than anyone, and his late-race fitness stands out as best in class.

Now a few years into his pro career, Deegan is also developing the mental side of racing. It’s not just about confidence or flair anymore—he’s racing with strategy. At Fox Raceway, he didn’t push too hard early in the motos. Instead, he let the race come to him, showing maturity and patience. Even after taking the lead, he resisted the urge to open up a massive gap, opting to manage the race smartly and avoid mistakes.
“It’s just the first round, and we’ve got 22 motos ahead,” Deegan explained. “Sure, having a 20-second lead looks cool, but save that for when the championship’s wrapped up. I got out front, paced the guy in second, and just rode my race. No need to override it—we’ve still got 11 rounds to go, so I’m not doing that.”
