The Detroit Tigers edged out the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Wednesday, but the victory came with a cloud of concern surrounding breakout pitcher Jackson Jobe. The 22-year-old right-hander started the game, giving up all three Giants runs over 4.2 innings. While his performance wasn’t his sharpest, it was his absence from postgame media availability that raised eyebrows—especially with Reese Olson still on the injured list.
According to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Jobe was not in the clubhouse after the game and did not speak with reporters. Manager A.J. Hinch later indicated that Jobe might be sent to the minors for a “tune-up,” though it’s unclear if that’s due to health, performance, or both.
Despite not factoring into Wednesday’s decision, Jobe has been a valuable part of Detroit’s rotation in 2025. In 10 starts, he’s gone 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA, offering consistency at the back end of the rotation in just his second MLB season.

Jobe’s uncertain status comes at a pivotal time. With Alex Cobb nearing his Tigers debut and Reese Olson expected back soon from a finger injury, the rotation could be getting crowded. If healthy, Jobe might be the odd man out due to his youth and lack of postseason experience. However, if he’s injured, Detroit has the depth to weather the storm.
The Tigers’ offense, led by Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, and Kerry Carpenter, has been one of the league’s most productive, helping the team stay atop the standings. That offensive firepower gives Detroit some breathing room should Jobe miss time.
Still, his status will be a key storyline to monitor. Jobe has already proven he belongs at the major league level, but as the season progresses and postseason ambitions grow, Hinch will need to make some tough decisions about how to structure his rotation.
