Kevin Gausman, the star of the Toronto Blue Jays, made some very important remarks regarding the condition of umpiring in today’s game just before he tumbled down the steps at Yankee Stadium last weekend.
Well, hold on, he didn’t. Gausman pitched himself out of a doubleheader and walked five Yankees before pleading with the home plate umpire to extend the zone on his behalf after the umpire missed only one call that irritated him.
On Friday, Jomboy provided a thorough analysis of Gausman’s journey, delaying the unraveling process long enough for us to read the righty’s lips as he griped about clean balls for four slow-motion minutes. Gausman’s first desired pitch, a low strike to Oswaldo Cabrera, was obviously in the corner and ought to have been called. The rest? Tailing off the corners, well off the plate. “Borderline” would be too much for most people.
It should come as no surprise that Gausman and Blue Jays manager John Schneider, who was both ejected, blamed the umpire for the doubleheader’s disastrous outcome rather than themselves. The righty yelled, “They’re strikes, b***h!” as he left the game after snapping many times and then falling.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider, pitcher Kevin Gausman throw tantrum against Yankees in latest Jomboy breakdown
Schneider made a point about poor umping later in the game when Yankees ace Max Fried received multiple low strikes of his own after the game had started to get out of control, even if Gausman’s outburst about non-strikes was objectively comical.
The manager of the Jays had every reason to go crazy. He had no justification for accusing the home plate umpire of causing his pitcher to be rocked and wear out the bullpen in his place.
Take note of the 4:40 point. Schneider claimed that he “sent [his] f***ing pitcher out of the f***ing game”; the ump’s contemptuous remarks in return (“Oh, my fault?”) are blatantly mocking.
After the Yankees won the doubleheader, the Blue Jays were furious and tried to show themselves by rallying twice this week against the Boston Red Sox bullpen. In the end, it was a true win-win situation for the Yanks, despite Gausman losing his temper for no apparent reason.
