Seattle Mariners Place Right-Handed Pitcher Collin Snider on 15-Day Injured List
The Seattle Mariners announced that right-handed reliever Collin Snider has been placed on the 15-day injured list, a move that impacts the depth of their bullpen as they continue to navigate a competitive stretch of the season. The IL placement is retroactive to June 4, though the team has yet to disclose the specific nature of Snider’s injury.
Snider, 28, has served as a middle reliever for Seattle this year after being claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals last offseason. While he hasn’t logged heavy innings for the Mariners, he’s provided key outings in lower-leverage situations, helping to bridge games to the back end of Seattle’s bullpen, which features high-performing arms like Andrés Muñoz and Ryne Stanek.
So far this season, Snider has appeared in limited action but was showing promise in his outings. Across his appearances, he posted a serviceable ERA and showed improved command compared to his earlier stints in the big leagues. His ability to induce ground balls and limit walks has been a positive development for the Mariners, who are always on the lookout for dependable bullpen arms as they attempt to stay in contention in the tightly packed AL West.
The injury is a setback not just for the Mariners but also for Snider personally, as he was trying to solidify his role in the majors. A former 12th-round pick by Kansas City in the 2017 MLB Draft, Snider debuted with the Royals in 2022 and showed flashes of potential but struggled with consistency. After bouncing between the majors and Triple-A, his move to Seattle provided a fresh opportunity, one he had seemingly begun to take advantage of before this injury.
In a corresponding move, the Mariners are expected to call up a reliever from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the roster spot. Possible candidates include right-handers Eduard Bazardo or Ty Adcock, both of whom have MLB experience and have been performing well at the minor league level.
Seattle’s bullpen has been one of its strengths in recent years, and the organization has been successful in developing under-the-radar arms. That said, the loss of depth—even temporarily—could challenge manager Scott Servais as he manages workloads during a critical part of the season.
The Mariners will continue to monitor Snider’s progress closely, hoping for a quick return. Further updates on his condition are expected in the coming days as the medical staff completes its evaluation.
