CHICAGO (AP) – The Cincinnati Reds have placed another outfielder on the 10-day injured list due to a left foot contusion.
Before the series opener against the Chicago Cubs, the Reds activated outfielder Jake Fraley from the 10-day injured list. They also recalled right-handed pitcher Lyon Richardson from Triple-A Louisville.
Hays, who will turn 30 on July 5, injured his foot after fouling a pitch off it during the sixth inning of Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Kansas City. He had already missed the beginning of the season with a left calf strain and previously spent time on the injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Hays signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Reds in January. This season, he is batting .303 with six home runs and 25 RBIs across 31 games.

Fraley, also 30, started in right field for the series opener after recovering from left calf soreness.
Richardson, 25, was called up to replace Luis Mejia, who was optioned to the minors Thursday. Richardson has appeared in 10 games this season for the Reds, holding a 0-1 record with a 1.32 ERA.
