TRADE ALERT: The Phillies Significant Trade Prediction Land $56 Million Center Field Slugger In Blockbuster Deal

The Philadelphia Phillies have posted the best record in Major League Baseball through the first third of the season, continuing their run as one of the league’s elite teams. However, after an impressive 2024 regular season, they managed just one playoff win before being eliminated by the New York Mets—an indication of how difficult it is to carry regular-season momentum into the postseason. With that in mind, the Phillies could look to bolster their roster at the trade deadline.

Jim Riley of BALLCAP Sports believes Philadelphia may target an outfield power bat to strengthen their lineup, suggesting the team could trade for Cedric Mullins of the Baltimore Orioles. “October is going to be brutal,” Riley said. “To get through the National League playoffs, you can’t afford to have any weaknesses. I expect Philly to be aggressive, and I think they’ll go after Mullins.”

Riley also pointed out that Mullins could be a target for other contenders, such as the Dodgers or Guardians, especially if the Orioles become sellers at the deadline. But the fit with the Phillies is particularly strong, given their underwhelming offensive production from centerfielders Brandon Marsh and Johan Rojas. Mullins, who has hit .226 with a .320 on-base percentage, .446 slugging, and 10 home runs so far, would offer a significant offensive upgrade in the lower part of Philadelphia’s batting order.

Additionally, acquiring Mullins might not cost the Phillies much. He’s set to hit free agency after the season and is projected to command a \$56 million contract, according to Spotrac. That could make Baltimore more willing to trade him for modest prospect value.

For the Phillies, who are aiming to convert regular-season dominance into a World Series title, this type of move could be exactly what they need.
