Brian Daboll enters a critical fourth season as head coach of the New York Giants with his future hanging in the balance. If the team outperforms expectations and secures a playoff berth, he’s likely to retain his position for 2026. But if the Giants stumble again, as they have the past two years, there’s a strong possibility Daboll will be let go after the 2025 campaign.
The New York Giants’ former No. 7 pick faces a pivotal season
Evan Neal has had a disappointing start to his NFL career, falling short of the high expectations that came with his early draft selection. On the field, he’s struggled with consistency, and injuries have further hindered his development—missing 22 of 51 regular-season games over his first three seasons due to an MCL sprain and recurring ankle issues. As a result, the Giants chose not to pick up his fifth-year option for the 2026 season. Neal now enters a contract year with one final opportunity to prove himself before hitting free agency next offseason.
The New York Giants confirmed a position change
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN NFL Nation, Evan Neal made a position switch during OTAs, moving from right tackle to guard in an effort to compete for a starting role. Raanan noted that Neal lined up at left guard during Wednesday’s practice and took reps with the second team. This marks a return to familiar ground for Neal, who last played left guard in 2019 during his college days at Alabama.

Given the recent success of players transitioning from tackle to guard—such as Mekhi Becton—many Giants fans are optimistic about Evan Neal’s move inside. The position change could offer Neal a fresh start and a better fit for his skill set, especially as he looks to revive his career and earn a long-term role during a pivotal contract year.
New York Giants Fans react to the position change
Been saying this for awhile, his natural position was LT, it only made sense for them to put him in at LG.
